Kevin Mullins CEO and Founder of Intrensic | Industry Era

maximios Women

Kevin Mullins’ ability to leverage relationships and develop industry foresight to scale his company Intrensic–from startup in 2014 to a top software solution for public safety in less than three years–is commendable. The CEO & Founder’s passion towards forging relationships with partners to create a world class company is what has transformed him into a steadfast leader who has the capability to transform not just companies but also humans.

Kevin has more than 25 years of financial management experience, technology industry leadership, software design expertise, and growth scale proficiency. He has been able to transfer a strong financial background to the foundation of a very successful software company. “The core to building and scaling a successful business is an acute understanding the budgets, balance sheets, and income statements,” says Kevin. “Moving from financial markets to a software platform is probably not a natural migration but I have always had a keen interest in software and performed many Intellectual Property valuations when considering financing ventures.” Today, Intrensic has culminated into one of the fastest growing companies in the body worn market and a new industry standard for video evidence management.

“The core to building and scaling a successful business is an acute understanding the budgets, balance sheets, and income statements.”

Intrensic has taken great pride in creating the world’s premier digital evidence and video management software solutions. Their open source platform works with many Body Worn Cameras available today, the company decided from the start that they did not want to be a camera manufacturer. Kevin was able to leverage relationships and partner with the greatest camera company in the world – GoPro. “By not having to spend time and dollars to build camera technology, our path was made much easier, as by partnering with GoPro we were able to leverage brand recognition and focus on what we do best – building amazing software platforms,” adds Kevin.

As the body worn camera market began to explode numerous organizations simply looked towards Asia to provide camera hardware for the public safety market. Most, if not all, of these companies went out of business soon after the customer soon realized it was virtually impossible to manage and scale large numbers of video files with off-the-shelf software provided by the camera manufacturers. Intrensic’s approach was different – to offer a dynamic, cloud storage solution, which allows unlimited storage and distribution across the enterprise. In an instance the company recently had a large customer requesting a customization to import a non-standard file type from a camera totally outside of Intrensic’s platform. An officer had been injured and the only evidence was captured from the legacy camera. “We custom wrote an application to import the files and this saved the agency a huge amount of time and resources,” explains Kevin. “The Command Staff of the agency provided us with a commendation for “going above and beyond” what any other vendor had ever done.”

Intrensic’s platform not only manages video but is a full Digital Evidence Management Platform (DEMS). Further their solution imports video, audio, photos, and imbeds the information directly into the user’s reports. They take the system further by adding a Case Management module which allows the agency to share an entire case and all evidence with prosecuting entities.

The company for the road ahead is currently working to add a full Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management System (RMS) so that Intrensic can port information from “cradle to grave”, basically managing the initial 911 call all the way through the prosecution. Additionally, Intrensic is working with GoPro to move their software into the healthcare vertical to manage surgically captured video.

Shiv Gupta, Sr. Partner, Lippincott

Yes, this is about the current state of politics in America, but rest assured I am not taking a political position on a forum that, gratefully and for the most part, has kept politics at arms length. Rather, as an active thinker and consultant on the topic of data and marketing technology, I am struggling with some very discomforting questions. What role has micro targeting and personalization played in creating the deeply divided America, and possibly world, we are seeing today? For the uninitiated, personalization algorithms are everywhere and behind the scenes, based on data from what you consume they attempt to sell you more of that flavor. It may not be as noticeable when it comes to your preferred brand of hot sauce, but when it comes to ideas it has big impacts. Did we, in the hope of bringing highly targeted and personalized content contribute to the hardening of minds and hearts on both sides of this divided country?I am NOT conclusively and exclusively putting the blame for the deep divisions on our use of data driven personalization. However, I think we need to begin to examine how much it contributed to the current situation and the lessons it has for the evolution of this powerful capability. While the genesis of this question may be political, it applies in less conspicuous ways to our commercial endeavors as well. I have recently joined a firm with deep roots in brand and design because, gutturally, I felt that data and technology is incomplete and saw a home where data, brand and design could evolve together. With my colleagues, we have been exploring the concept of how to make technology more human and to give it a brand voice. I am very much in agreement with this view, but I am now also wondering how do we also inject openness and exploration and how does that balance with personalization?

I do not believe that this question can be solved with an adjustment to the algorithms. Understanding how our core motivations transform into our preferences and then ultimately behavior is still a challenge to understand. Leveraging mostly behavioral data to personalize offers and content may provide sales lift today, but this model needs to be disrupted, badly. We need to take a broader view of what personalization means and how openness and possibility integrates into that definition. I look forward to contributing to that disruption as a businessperson but also as a father and devoted citizen.

Sam Schoelen, CITO/CSO of Continental Resources | Industry Era

Sam Schoelen, CITO/CSO, Continental

Ever since I have taken the plunge into the world of cloud technologies one theme has been obvious; all the solutions and decisions that were so difficult to maneuver through have now become as easy as checking a box. For years I have been rolling out very complicated technology solutions, working with high-level security, networking, systems, and redundant solutions, these same solutions today can be accomplished with a check-box and rolled out in minutes.Reminiscing back to the first time I built a mail server or SQL server and the redundancy associated with them I remember the cost and complications I encountered. As I recall, it was extremely time consuming and included very expensive hardware, replication/cluster software, consulting hours and expensive software and was not easy to do! In fact, it was an extremely complicated solution. It was architected, installed and configured over a lengthy amount of time and was prone to failure. I would continuously have to test the configurations and oftentimes my tests were “handed to me”! In other words the entire install was a catastrophe and I would be scrambling in search of a solution because Plan “A” would not go as intended. Also, the price tag associated with these roll-outs would always exceed the forecasted budget. Now, when I roll out RDS (AWS database solutions) I see a lot of options. Some of them are “Do you want this to be redundant?”, “Do you want this to be encrypted?”, “Do you want this to be managed?” Each one of these solutions used to be, individually very expensive, now these complicated solutions are as easy as just clicking “Yes” in that ever-so-easy to apply “checkbox”. And the price tag that comes with these features are a fraction of what they use to be.I built one of the first hosting datacenter for web.com and it needed to build as a fully redundant datacenter in every way. It was done through multiple servers, load balancers, internet links, UPS, databases, etc… Now, in contrast I recently used the PaaS solution that Azure has to host a website, now if I want a fully redundant solution for my website I can just load it directly onto the Azure PaaS web solution. Simply by checking off a few boxes the process alleviates multiple layers of configuration issues. As we all know, there are hosting solutions that have been around for years that would do something similar to this, but they were time consuming and extremely tedious. Today it is taken to a new layer of systems including databases, operating systems, ERP, CRM, and other similar solutions. A developer no longer has to worry about any of this, he can concentrate on what his core job is and do it better and faster.Developments such as these do not come as a revelation within our industry as technology advancements have always been part of the culture, they come fast and they cultivate new and more efficient ways of doing things. Now they are taking on the software and hardware giants, eliminating the need for their existence, and doing a very fine job of it! Every week there are announcements from cloud providers showing new and more advanced solutions that now exist with total ease of use. For example; I read that Netflix has released their software to replicate systems into either AWS, Azure or Google and they are giving it away for free, not particularly good news for companies that rely on selling this type of software. As well as, AWS just released a database replication software that can cost as little as $3 per TB to replicate a database into their cloud. There are companies that spend a lot of time to develop this software and sell it for profit, so why would companies be buying this software if they can do it with the core vendors (AWS, Azure, Google) or just use an open source software to do this? The answer is simple “they wouldn’t”.The entire insurgence into the cloud should be making many of the software giant’s very nervous and will force many of them to stay innovative by developing faster and more cost effective solutions or to the alternative extreme, close their doors for good. Companies need to keep innovation at the top, they need to be able to recognize what their customers need and create this either better than, faster than, or more creative than the cloud vendors can. If these corporate giants keep their eye on the future and are able to build solutions that coexist and strive to remain on the cutting edge, they may be able to not only survive in today’s cloud driven market but can continue to do so with solid growth patterns. In today’s commerce, taking a year to get a solution out the door is no longer an option, companies must be able to take a product from theory to customer with speed and efficiency to keep up.

My intent in this message is not to hit the panic button, but to draw attention to the constant changes within technology and to help folks stay on top of their game. You have to move fast and smart. If you chose to ignore the industry trends then you may easily make a slip and end up as a non-relevant entity.

Erica Strausberger, Computhink’s Director of Domestic Business Development | Industry Era

At Computhink, we know that Matter Management is a crucial part of any law firm’s operation. With the growing reliance on fast and comprehensive e-discovery and the organization of digital content, law firms need to consider signing up for an electronic document management system. Unlike the everyday user or small business that utilizes document management, law firms have unique needs. If they don’t adhere to comprehensive security and compliance, there is an unacceptable risk factor for themselves and their clients.

Computhink has established a reputation for dynamic secure business solutions with a generous feature set over years in the industry. The company continues to grow its offerings as the market changes. “Contentverse has changed with the technology in this industry and with the growing needs of a wide variety of markets, especially Legal,” according to Erica Strausberger, Computhink’s Director of Domestic Business Development.

“Our software is very flexible and solves legal challenges that every firm or department has.” Documents can be scanned, electronically saved, or generated by third party applications, in any format, and saved into Contentverse where they are easily searched and made accessible for collaboration. Access is dependent on security settings, providing complete control over what users can and cannot do. Drag and drop features speed the time for building your knowledge base. Office documents, emails, spreadsheets, PDFs, even social media posts can be incorporated into new or existing case files with ease. Contentverse even enables high-speed production capture as part of your litigation or e-discovery process. It enables auto indexing of matter number allocation and storing of files in an intuitive digital file cabinet custom to your needs. The software allows retrieval of files quickly by a flexible set of search options. Contentverse supports automatic version control and date/time stamping, enabling litigation to select and separate out what is important.

” Matter Management where speed, simplicity, and ease of use are the norm. “

Many of the features that competitors are boasting about selling as add-ons or separate modules today, Computhink has included in the core Contentverse product for years. Version control and document retention, double layered encryption for protecting sensitive legal files, auditing abilities to monitor the entire history of any document or user within Contentverse – these are features any legal firm or department absolutely needs, and they come standard within Contentverse.

When working on a case, you never know how many parties will need to get involved. A case may require the work of other attorneys, staff members, summer associates, and paralegals in order to reach completion. The addition of hands from various areas or departments makes it easier for pieces to get lost in the shuffle. With Contentverse’s consolidated content management system, that won’t happen anymore. You’ll always know who was working on what part of the case, and when. Once the legal risks are identified for your business, Contentverse allows you to create the necessary controls. Every file you put into the system can have its own set of regulations that can be adjusted if needed. Have those annual reports or practice licenses automatically show up on your desktop a week before renewal or sent off to a recipient to sign at just the right time.

When it comes to legal practices, confidentiality and reliance are two attributes clients always look for. To meet these expectations, law firms need a system in place that guarantees privacy and offers security. A data breach can hurt any business, but it can truly ruin a legal practice. Private records, a client’s history, case-related evidence, and sensitive information – classified data of this variety should always be encrypted, even during transit. Securing files in Contentverse is simple yet compliant with the most stringent regulatory requirements. History logs and audit trail files track all activity at the document and system level. “Contentverse includes advanced security and encrypts files during storage. This ensures your legal documents are kept out of the wrong hands while still available to the right people in your firm,” according to Strausberger. “Contentverse also provides real-time, automated notifications of actions and optional digital signature solutions.” Notifications will keep you abreast of new additions to the system.

As soon as important documents enter the system, an email will arrive in your inbox. When that document comes in, you can work on it or give your approval and immediately hand it off to the appropriate staff member.

Contentverse is an award-winning enterprise content management system that will improve your law firm’s processes and simplify your workday. You’ll know precisely when work gets completed or a new important document has entered your system (expected or not). Contentverse takes care of legal industry compliance requirements and keeps track of contractual obligations so you don’t have to. Legal practices can trust Computhink to keep their data safe, carefully encrypted, and in the right hands. With our ECM solution for matter management, accessibility belongs to the administrator and no file is lost forever. You can rest assured that your documents will be organized, secure, and easy-to-locate with Contentverse.

Chas Wurster, CTO of ParTech, Inc. | Industry Era

PAR Technology Corporation (PTC) was founded in 1968, by Dr. John Sammon, to provide consulting services to the commercial sector in the areas of digital signal and image processing, while he worked as a research scientist at the Air Force’s Rome Labs. In 1970, Sammon left government service to work full time in the pursuit of innovative applications of digital technology involving the detection and recognition of patterns in complex data streams.

Across the next 20 years, PAR expanded its business to international markets, installing POS systems and software across the globe. Today, PAR provides its restaurant and retail customers with technology to improve internal operations enhancing the customer experience and better manage information. The primary areas of focus are point of sale and food safety systems where PAR provides a combination of hardware, software and services. “We provide hardware that is deployed in nearly 100,000 restaurants and 110 countries; from terminals, to kitchen systems, to temperature monitoring IoT devices,” says Chas Wurster, Chief Technology Officer of PAR

On the software side, the company provides cloud-based Brink POS Software, as well as PixelPoint Software and their food safety and checklist management solution, SureCheck. According to Wurster, the industry is being heavily disrupted by technology. One only needs to look at the increase in mobile ordering, delivery, and payment to see how technology is affecting restaurants and retail. As rising labor costs drive the desire for operational efficiency and delivery changes the physical footprint of some storefronts, customers are forced to adapt. This leads to the desire to have more access to data, more ways to integrate systems, and an ever-increasing focus on security. The cloud-based Brink POS Software provides easy integration points for third parties and the ability to manage all store concepts from a single location. PAR’s food safety application, SureCheck, allows customers to easily look for anomalies and compliance risks, whilst providing sensor integration to collect information about the environment automatically. This provides an easier way to collect all the data compared to traditional paper-based systems.

“ Our franchisees couldn’t be happier with our selection to go with PAR’s Cloud-Based Brink Software. ”

PAR is also redefining point of sale by concentrating on making Brink the backbone of the restaurant. Through the robust solution and APIs, the company allows the customers to connect their kitchen, online ordering, loyalty, payroll, instore metrics, omni channel marketing, delivery, and other initiatives together with all their data securely processed and backed up in the cloud. This eliminates the risks typically associated with an on premise back-office computer that usually holds all the localized data for that store.

In an instance, prior to Brink, California Tortilla was using a server-based point of sale system commonly used in the industry that required inefficient, standalone support and could not efficiently integrate with emerging technology. “It’s important for Cal Tort to be up to date with POS technology, now and in the future. Our aging POS system was fast approaching the end of its usefulness and was becoming disruptive to the overall operations of the business,” explains Brian Chase, Director of Franchise Operations, California Tortilla. “Our franchisees couldn’t be happier with our selection to go with PAR’s Cloud-Based Brink Software.”

As the restaurant and retail industry is disrupted by technology, the company is focusing towards their commitment to the customers to help them run their businesses. PAR is in the process of transforming into a software-lead solution provider, where the POS software becomes a focus with the hardware supporting it, instead of the other way around. With Brink, the company is currently focused on the US and North American markets, specifically in quick service and fast casual restaurants. “In the future, we are looking at the opportunities to leverage our existing international footprint to expand, as well as the opportunity to move into more table service concepts,” says Wurster.

Ross Kennedy Founder & President of QHi Group| Industry Era

The internet of things (IOT & HOT) is a global seismic change that is influencing every industry. Industrial infrastructure needs to be “connected” to enable Big Data to be collected and analyzed via A.I. And here sensors play a vital role, because no sensors = no data. “It is thus important organizations recognize the need to move from inspection to monitoring in new build equipment because if they don’t include sensors, they are building in obsolescence to equipment with a nominal life of 25-30 yrs. Equally important, is what sensor technology to deploy,” says Ross Kennedy, Founder & President of QHi-Group. The key issue is sensor reliability, with those offering Lifetime Warranty and zero maintenance, as Exertherm does, avoiding future significant additional costs. The company has become a pioneer in offering Exertherm the World’s #1 non contact thermal condition monitoring sensor for electrical infrastructure.

QHi-Group used to sell hand held infrared scanners for thermally inspecting electrical infrastructure. But, on listening close to the customers QHi-Group deduced that customers wanted something more. QHi-Group worked with one of the world’s top IR manufacturers to co-develop the specifically designed infrared sensor, which is non contact and like a thermocouple requires no power. The Infrared sensor is a key part of the Exertherm system and has many unique features; it is not in contact with the conductors, it measures the Delta T temperature, of the conductor joint being monitored without any other sensor or computational calculation, is reliable and accepted and/or designed into every global OEM of electrical infrastructure.

” It is thus important organizations recognize the need to move from inspection to monitoring in new build equipment because if they don’t include sensors, they are building in obsolescence to equipment with a nominal life of 25-30 yrs. Equally important, is what sensor technology to deploy.”

QHi-Group is reinventing their technology on the constant feedback from customers and noting the market requirements. “We began with our standard Exertherm solution for LV& MV switchgear. Then we specifically designed, developed, and patented the thermal sensor for cable joints. Some customers told us they operate at low load levels so we developed the patented “LoadMap” which enables alarm thresholds which are related to load,” explains Ross. “We went on to develop a low cost, vendor neutral MCC “In-Drawer” solution, with a status LED on drawer front (Green/Yellow/Red).”

According to Pradeep Kumar Rath Electrical Section Head, Habshan 5 Plant GASCO Abu Dhabi Exertherm infra-red sensors and monitoring system which have been installed in the plant are highly effective and had successfully detected high temperature zones in numerous occasions. This has enabled them to take advance corrective measures. “The performance of these sensors are highly satisfactory and it is our intention to continue and pursue with this best practice as part of our ongoing program of increased/uptime and safety and include the same the new build panel specifications for future projects,” adds Pradeep.

QHi-Group wants to focus on the message that thermal condition monitoring provides significant financial benefits such as reduced on-going maintenance downtime, reduced downtime via early detection of problems before they fail, reduced human intervention which equals increased safety. It also assists in enabling the huge future benefits which can be derived from HOT.

QHi-Group is well positioned with its acceptance by major OEM’s and it’s increasing global presence Pan-America, Far East, Middle East, India, and Europe to take advantage of the exponential growth in thermal condition monitoring sensors, driven by HOT. “We have grown by over 300 percentin the last 3 years and with known revenue sources are predicting continued growth along the same trajectory, as we also introduce further applications for our technology, and explore other monitoring solutions in both electrical and mechanical infrastructure,” adds Ross. “People often ask me how we can have achieved so much without the massive resources of a multinational giant. My response is always the same. Our products are exceptional, best of class, and deliver exactly what we say they do.” But the real secret of QHi-Group is the exceptional people within the company, who work together as a team, whose dedication, passion, commitment, and skills are what have driven the company forward to achieve their world leading position in the market, and take us forward to achieve our future goals.

The Pioneer team was at the heart of it as they had rigorous knowledge acquisition. “For example, on Thanksgiving Day our team was making sure all of the information on the website was accurate, no downtime issues with no negative impact on the revenue of the customer,” adds Nishidha.

For Pioneer, employees with customer interface are responsible for executing day-to-day client-facing communication, they link the business and customer. If that breaks down, the business is destroyed. Building relationships with customers takes time but establishes a highly differentiated position. As for service, it just does not include only delivery and the service provided but all other supporting elements as well which seem like simple components but are the most important. The company’s employees are their asset and Pioneer makes sure their growth is not just limited to professional but overall as well-rounded individuals too. When employees are well taken care of there is a lot of positive outcome according to Nishidha.

Nishidha thinks being self aware along with curiosity and continuous learning are the key to become a successful leader. “There will be times when you or others may raise doubts about making it through but just be patient. Stay positive and let failures be experiences to learn and grow,” says Nishidha. For the road ahead Pioneer wants to adopt as many emerging trends in technology as possible. Pioneer is focusing on Chaos Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security and Big Data that can be incorporated in their services.
